2 Forks Club Member Dinner and Food Journey at Deer Tree Farm
Friday September 27th, 6pm
2 Forks (2forks.org) is a local nonprofit venture philanthropy investment club that makes 0% interest loans to farmers and food entrepreneurs in the North Fork and Roaring Fork River Valleys. Our goal is to build a robust local food economy by giving community farmers and local food entrepreneurs a leg up. The group has made seventeen loans totaling over $340,000 to area farmers and entrepreneurs, and has had a lot of fun doing it!
Members and those ready to join the movement are invited to a local food journey at Deer Tree Farm (a 2 forks loan recipient) with renowned farm-to-table caterers, the “Forage Sisters”. The event is free for current members, and for those that are ready to join. More info by calling Eden Vardy at 970.379.2323. The Forage Sisters are Mirasol and Nicole, and though technically business partners, they are truly like sisters. Their shared love for curating events focused on food from local, Western Slope farms lead them to create the Forage Sisters. Together they are inspired by their familial backgrounds of Italian and Argentinian descent as well as earthen and simplistic styles of food, the spirit of Colorado, their commitment to sustainable living, and above all, their love for people, community and gathering.
Deer Tree Farm and Agroforest is a new restoration agriculture project pursued by two love birds, AJ and Nicole Carrillo, on eighteen acres in Hotchkiss, Colorado. With beautiful gardens, heritage breed animals, alfalfa, and over five acres of mature peach trees, as well as
an eight-acre integrated agroforestry project, Deer Tree has its vision set on a whole-systems approach to farming. By implementing cutting edge techniques such as watershed management andagroforestry, Deer Tree provides an abundance of perennial and annual food from a diverse agricultural ecosystem that will prove to be both ecologically sound and economically profitable. Along with our farm-to-table dinners, workshops, private events, and fully functioning farm, we hope to benefit our local community and economy for many years to come.
